TDA1514/TDA2040 Surround Sound Amplifier - Mark 2 - Surround Sound Amplifier Designs

New amplifier designs...

Here's a few designs for my next amplifier:

There are both single and dual units, as described below. Another note is that circles represent rotary knobs such as volume, other levels bass and treble. Smaller coloured circles represent LED's, LED's coloured red are bi-colour and change to green when the switch is pressed. Rectangles are push buttons, as decided so far. The power switch is a rotary mains switch, but can also be a push button.

Single units

These units have all the components in one box - my preferred approach. However, my last amplifier was a squeeze in the biggest box I could buy. It does look like I could get away with it again, especially as I will design the boards to fit nicely and are removing the original active volume control circuit in my last build, as well as the loudness filter, fan controller (and fan) and the rear pre-in stereo to mono circuit. However, things that will be in this that is not in the original are an extra amplifier, larger toroidal and E-I transformer, width controller. It may be awkward

Dual units

I have a few designs where I use two boxes instead of one for the whole thing. The advantages are I will have more space and I can upgrade the whole pre-amp without ditching the power amps or vice versa. The disadvantages are that it will need more room and cables running between the units. Also, if I can run the pre-amps off the single main transformer (as in my last design), this unit will make that more difficult.
